Sandra Duncan has been involved with children's care and education since 1967. Her teaching career began as a kindergarten teacher for the Lake Central School Corporation where she established the charter kindergarten curriculum for the school system and taught kindergarten at Peifer School for ten years. She was the Director of Munster's Park and Recreation Program and was responsible for developing the summer program for over 500 children at 4 different sites.

For over 15 years, Dr. Duncan owned and operated five childcare centers, three private preschools, a reading diagnostic clinic, several school age programs, and summer park and recreation programs. In addition to The Adventure Club, Dr. Duncan is an adjunct professor at Ivy Tech Community College working with students preparing to be educators in the early childhood field. Also, she is an adjunct professor for Nova Southeastern University as a Dissertation Chair and Committee Member working with doctoral students. She served as President of High Reach Learning and the past publisher of Scholastic's Early Childhood Today and Early Childhood News magazines.

Dr. Duncan served as a member of the board of directors for the National After School Alliance, the national advisory board for Primrose Schools, Pizza Hut's BookIt/BookIt Beginners Reading Incentive Program, Salvation Army, and the University of Wisconsin-Stouts Curriculum Program Committee. Dr. Duncan is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, Indiana Association for the Education of Young Children, Association for Curriculum Development, and International Play Association. She is a frequent speaker at local and national conferences and a contributing author for Exchange magazine, which is an international publication written for early childhood practitioners. Dr. Duncan is the author of several teacher resource books: Inspiring Spaces for Young Children; Rating Observation Scale for Inspiring Spaces; Rethinking the Classroom Landscape: Creating Environments that Connect Young Children, Families, and Communities; and soon to be published Bringing the Outside In. She is the founder of Inspired Approach to Environments, a consulting and training company focused on designing transforming early childhood classrooms both nationally and internationally.
